David is almost 18 months old! He says a few words, mainly that only a mother (and maybe a father) could understand ... ball, dog, dump truck, plane, drink, spoon, fork, up, down, cracker, cookie, milk, banana, hat, hot, glasses, shoes, on, off, and uh-oh! He's got the basics covered!
He is very good at using his body to communicate. He very clearly and very often signs "please," occasionally signs "thank you." He dramatically shakes his head yes and no, and vigorously points for what he wants. He very cutely shrugs when he doesn't know where something is.
His newest creative communication is about hearing and seeing. We often have our windows open, and so he can hear the sounds outside - dogs, planes, balls bouncing, trucks, lawnmowers - some of this favorite things! When he hears one of these, he perks up and points to his ears, meaning "I hear something I like!" And then, especially during meals, he follows with pointing to his eyes and signing "please," meaning "I'd like to see it, please!" :-)
Tonight David laid down on his back in the bath tub so the water covered all of him except for his eyes, nose and mouth. This is a big step to let the water get in his ears - way to go, big guy!
